Do You Ever Think Of Me You ever hear that old mockingbird early in the morning Singing from the power lines right outside your window I roll over to touch your cheek and you’re not there And I wonder do you ever think of me Yeah I wonder do you ever think of me You ever pour that first cup of coffee and sit out on your porch Watch the sun come up red through the trees, feel that heat comin’ on Looks like another sunny day - sunny for someone anyway And I wonder do you ever think of me Yeah I wonder do you ever think of me And when the breeze slides softly through your window Bringing with it the sweet scent of sacred desert rain Do you close your eyes again all those memories What changed in you, baby Changed in me too, baby You ever wonder in the evening, daylight fading down Just what became of all the hours between sleep and sleep How I long to kiss your mouth, to smell your fragrant hair And I wonder do you ever think of me Yeah I wonder do you ever think of me Oh I wonder do you ever think of me Yeah I wonder do you ever think of me

Road Of Man You might know the gospel - you might not know the truth You might read the headlines and wonder what’s the use You might hate your neighbors and all they hold as true You better polish up your button that says “What Would Jesus Do” You might think that no one else can rock it like you can You might not know where to go when mapping out your plan Be careful where you turn It might be too late to learn How to find direction Out on the road of man You might be a cynic but drop a nickel in the well You might not believe in heaven but hope there ain’t no hell You might take precautions against the twists of fate You might even take to prayin’ in hopes you’re not too late You might worry ‘bout your future and the chances that you took Something might be gaining on you but you’re too afraid to look Your foot’s hard on the gas Be sure to signal when you pass Or you might just miss that curve ahead Out on the road of man You might be judging others by the color of their skin You might hold the keys to heaven or think you know the back way in You might be corner preaching with hell-fire in your eye You might be in the shelter just trying to get by You might think your day to day is more than you can stand You might feel like you’re trying to catch some moonbeams in your hand Remember long ago Someone told you so Nothing is the way it seems Out on the road of man You might beg for forgiveness but not understand the rules You might mistake some broken glass for the sacred jewels You might feel like you’re getting born or you might think you're dead You might not recognize your savior if she dropped right in your bed You might whistle past the graveyard you might spit into the wind You might be just another innocent committing mortal sin You might have all the answers Share them if you can Cause you ain’t rollin’ solo Out on the road of man You got a lot of company You better understand That you ain’t rollin’ solo….

Cocoon Don’t want to be no butterfly Don’t want to sprout no wings Want to stay here in my cocoon And think unhappy things Don’t want to flutter ‘round no sunny field Don’t want to ride no wind Gonna stay here where I’m safe and warm You all do what you intend Your sky’s so big and blue and wide It scares the hell half out of me I plan to stay right here inside Can’t you all just let me be I hang out with the beetles here I hang out with the crickets too So I’ll just stay here near the ground If it’s all the same to you Nobody pays me any mind Down there among the weeds And here in my cocoon I got all the friends I need Your world goes by so fast And it don’t make no sense Since I’m here all by myself Don’t have to think in present tense My view don’t ever change, it’s true Done ate up all the scenery But here in my cocoon None of that matters much to me Don’t want to be no butterfly Don’t want to sprout no wings I’ll just stay here where its safe and warm And think my unhappy things Right here in my cocoon Just let me pupate here in peace Here in my cocoon Why can’t you all just let me be

Around Here © 2018 Eric Ramsey and Eric Ramsey Music Holes in the streets, holes in the windows Shot full of holes, the bones of this old town Ghosts in the alleys, rust in the hearts Of the few decent folks left around Down the street we used to hear laughing children on the playground Over by the elementary school And the rattle, clank and clack of that noonday freight out of Dayton You could set your watch by it, the old timers knew Those laughing children all grew up and moved away, or went to war Which is what usually happens if you're poor and otherwise adrift Those who returned mostly came back in pieces Their bodies and their minds and souls bereft Now how do you tell a young person who’s come home to the only home they've known Fresh back from some modern day hell That there’s no work no proposition no future around here No future - oh, but by the way - thanks for answering the bell Weeds get higher all the time Each day another hill to climb No one out there has any time for us around here We had a visitor once, few years ago Some old red-faced fat man come down from Washington DC Didn’t look to me like he’d ever missed too many meals While some folks’ kids around here didn’t have enough to eat Well he went on and on and on about the changes that were coming If we’d just be patient and bide our time We all heard between his words, though, something he never came right out and said Which was: You’ll get yours when I get mine Then he rode off in his big black Buick Tires hissing like god’s own serpent on the greasy street And we all knew as we watched those taillights disappear into the distance That we’d just been left to our own fate Weeds get higher all the time Each day another hill to climb No one out there gives a dime to us around here Home prices and interest rates aren’t the only things depressed around here Hell, just poke your head into any of the tatty neighborhood bars You can pretty much always find another unhappy soul to let you express your opinion As long as you promise to listen to theirs For the price of a pitcher, or two, and maybe a game of pool You can articulate, gesticulate, vituperate and pretty much hate everything that’s happening in your life But everyone around here tends to agree that it’s better this way than going home Kicking the dog and fighting with your wife I’d like to tell you all that this tale has a happy ending Some theatrically inspired uplifting denouement I‘m afraid you’ll have to come up with your own happy ending, to your satisfaction Because I can’t Weeds get higher all the time, each day’s another hill to climb No one out there gives a damn about us around here

Well I told you pretty baby such a long time ago If I found you with another I would walk right out your door Might call me crazy But there's just one thing you should know If you want me to love you, better give it up or let me go I know it's useless to be jealous, I couldn't tie you if I tried When I think of you messin' behind my back well that's a Pain I just can't hide Honey I been true to you And if I dan make that sacrifice, honey you can do it too You come home drunk and nasty You won't tell me where you been And just when things are nice and sweet You're goin' back out again Why do you want to mess up a good thing I'm gonna find me another love - one who's gonna give me everything Well I told you pretty baby such a long time ago If I found you with another I would walk right out your door Might call me crazy But there's just one thing you should know If you want me to love you, better give it up or let me go

What Else Do We Need Come they told me, so come I did I didn’t see nothing - just a little bitty kid No different than any other newborn babe So why did all these folks come all this way Now I seen lots of babies in my time And I would be a rich man if I had a dime For every cigar I’ve been given by a brand new dad Who believes his son will be the one to fix a world gone mad I never even knew I was a sinner Never understood the concept of a “Saint” All I ever tried to do Was to be as kind to you As I wanted you to be to me Tell me what else do we need Can’t seem to get away from this old town Keep my head down and work my piece of ground I don’t have much money to my name But I come here to pay tribute all the same Here’s an old coat that’ll surely keep him warm Used to be my boy’s - he don’t need it any more But I don’t want to go much into that No I done done all my thinking over that Chorus Bridge: Them stars sure look bright there in the heavens Or that might just be the traffic getting off the interstate Most nights by now I can’t tell up from down And folks usually pass on by this town Well I reckon I’ll just be on my way Not much room here in this stable and I got no place to stay Don’t scare the little fella in his bed He needs his rest for what will surely lie ahead If you want me I’ll be down the road from here Archangel Michael owes me another beer At least that’s what I thought he said Just before he put this notion in my head Chorus © 2018 Eric Ramsey, Eric Ramsey Music, Not Quite Norman Music ASCAP

It's A Rough World Baby Joseph said to Mary “Honey tell me what’s wrong “Why you so downhearted, why is your face so long? Mary said “Joseph, this is why I’m so blue “If He’s the son of God how come He looks just like you?” It’s a rough world baby It’s a tough world baby But it’s our world baby and we just got to try to get along Angels and archangels gathered from on high Singing to that baby from way up in the sky “This world you were dropped into ain’t ready for you “Gonna see a lot of trouble, boy, before you get through” It’s a rough world baby It’s a tough world baby But it’s your world baby and you’re gonna have to try to get along (B) Now you might be like me and I might be like you Don’t lock us in a room with all those other fools I would never tell you that you can’t have any fun I’m only suggesting that your work is never done Poor Noah he was thinking as the rain began to fall “I don’t know how I will ever have room for them all “And Lord you take a look down below the main deck “Tell me who’s gonna help me clean up that mess” It’s a rough world baby It’s a tough world baby And it’s gonna be a wet world baby grab a shovel and we’ll try to get along (B) You might want a halo - you might desire wings You might choose to throw that all away for other worldly things The only thing that matters when you calculate your worth Is how you treat your brothers and sisters here on earth St. Peter at the pearly gates was readin’ from his list The line was long, the penitents were getting kinda … angry Patience is a virtue when you come before the throne You don’t want to mess up now and get sent back down on your own It’s a rough world baby It’s a tough world baby But it’s our world baby and we all got to try to get along It’s a rough world baby It’s a tough world baby Grab your ankles and smile, we’re gonna be here a while It’s a rough world baby It’s our world baby and we all got to try to get along Yeah it’s our world baby and we all got to try to get along

Everybody’s Just A Heartbeat Away We got bells and whistles We got whistles and bells Angels from heaven Hounds from hell There’s a train in the distance Half a mile away I’m gonna be on that train some day Everybody’s just a heartbeat Everybody’s just a heartbeat away Everybody’s just a heartbeat away from the next thing Everybody’s just a heartbeat Everybody’s just a heartbeat away Everybody’s just a heartbeat away from the next thing We got ice and fire We got fire and ice We can’t be trusted To our own device There’s a train in the distance Moving farther on One day soon that train’ll be gone Everybody’s just a heartbeat Everybody’s just a heartbeat away Everybody’s just a heartbeat away from the next thing Everybody’s just a heartbeat Everybody’s just a heartbeat away Everybody’s just a heartbeat away from the next thing You blow them whistles You ring them bells For all you’re worth Better ring them well Maybe that train in the distance Gonna come back around I myself - I’m heading for higher ground

Somehow She Loves Me I'm a host of good intentions prob’ly on my road to hell Ceremony and convention have never served me well I’m hardly strictly anything that I really ought to be But I love her And somehow she loves me She’s got a moral compass that is always pointing north While my own sense of direction tends to wander back and forth And she makes me a better man than I ever thought I’d be And I love her And somehow she loves me (C)She’s got the moon in her hip pocket Constellations in her eyes And when she says she needs me It still takes me by surprise She’s a hint of desert springtime On days when I can barely breathe And I love her And somehow she loves me There is no rhyme nor reason, no simple point of fact No honest explanation, no rule in white and black Why I have been the chosen, blessed to receive But I love her And somehow she loves me Why I have been the chosen, blessed to receive Yes I love her And somehow she loves me
